Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified Review - Updated
Full Low-down one week in
Update to our first 8/10 review.
Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified for Vita has been out for a week now and PSO have been hammering the game on and offline to really dig out the good stuff to let gamers know what to expect from the Vita's top FPS.
To start off gamers all over the world have now read some quite awful reviews of COD. So let’s take a quick look at some contradicting statements.
Naming no websites:
One states the controls are “Loose” and “floaty”, some websites bang on about having to pay for the game, this has quite obviously upset them and a bad review follows with outrageous claims of how long the single player game takes to complete. There are three parts to the single player game one of those modes is sort of like Zombies and there’s no way you can complete it all in the time they claim.
One review says it's COD without the HUGE set pieces. So in other words if you remove the set pieces from COD you’re left with a game that’s only worth 5/10?
So these sites give 4 marks for all the bullshit over the top set pieces that do nothing for the game play?
There are also complaints about the swearing and bad language.
Finally there are lots of claims that the “Multiplayer is a mess” with claims of sitting at a loading screen for “5 minutes”, yes 5. Basically most say the MP is unplayable.
Now I feel very strongly about this. It's nothing to do with being a fanboy or my dying love for Sony/PS Vita, I just can't stand untruths.
The controls are very tight and sharp, even some of the bad reviews say this. You can't rank up to level 24 with loose and floaty controls unless you like to punish yourself.
I'm on and off the single player game and up to level 7. I would like to point out that I'm playing on Hardened as what's the point in playing a game if you don't want any sort of challenge? Saying that, COD is no easy game. Hostiles gets hard very quickly. I have completed one mission on Veteran and it took 24 mins of careful shooting.
My hate of COD on console is mainly down to the bullshit “over the top” blowing stuff up, while this may look good the first time, it bores me to the bone. That is 99% stripped out of COD Vita, this is a good thing in my opinion.
As for the swearing? Come on, COD games are a swear-a-thon. They are 18 rated when all said and done. I guess mowing down innocent people in an airport is okay as long as there is no swearing?
Now on to Multiplayer.
Like I have said before, I'm now at rank 24 and had night after night of fun with this game.
Resistance was hit or miss on a good game online but this is different. Fast paced on very well designed maps and to be honest I don't think there is a bad map. I have my Vita set up with a static IP in a DMZ and I think everyone should do the same.
We start the Party app on Vita and then hit the party button in game. We chat away all night and the game is solid with no disconnections. Most people stay in our games once they’ve connected so we must have a REALLY solid connection if what other sites say is an honest account of the time they had online.
It's fast and fun with 100% NO LAG what so ever. Fact. Shoot someone in the head they go down, in the back, you'll see the blood on the very spot you aim at.
I'm genuinely shocked at the negative press with this game but most of it is all too obvious that they have only played for five minutes or so as most don't even cover the basics of the game.
PSO 8/10 (we don't get paid and do what we do for fun)
User reviews on PSN. 4.10 from 1000+ users
Amazon 4 out of 5 stars from users
Professional reviewers that have had to pay for the game, average around 30%.
Granted this is not a 100% flawless game, I'm no fool, but it's the best FPS ever to grace a hand-held console.
I stick to our 8/10 review like Semtex to a ***ing Nuckhouse!
See you online.
If I'm honest and had I played for this amount of time I'd have given the game 8.5/10.
