Sony Announce Two Playstation Branded Android Tablets
To take on the iPad
The S1 will be released in Autumn 2011 with the S2 to follow, they will both be able to connect to the PlayStation Suite and run a number of PSOne titles.
The S1 will support Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), WiFi and 3G and feature a 9.4 inch display
The S2 will also support Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and features two 5.5-inch displays. The S2's two screens will be able to operate together or independently
No further specs have been released yet, but its probably safe to assume that they will feature dual core processors and at least 512mb of RAM
Interestingly the S1 appears not to be beveled an improvement on the iPad 2 that dramatically reduces its perceived size when held.
The iPad is an incredibly polished product with a strong ecosystem behind it. Whether or not Sony's tablet can compete is yet to be seen. There's certainly a spot in the market waiting for a quality Android tablet though.
